Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not here, please reach out to us!

We offer conventional, custom tattoos. We do not offer cosmetic tattooing.

Currently, we are By Appointment Only, which means that you will need to set up an appointment in order to receive a tattoo.

We do not currently have certain days or times that we are open, though typically appointment times will range between 1p-8p throughout the week and weekend.

Our artists are in control of their own schedules, and will schedule you with themselves accordingly.

If you have any requests for certain days/times, please include them in your Booking Request.

We do not tattoo people under 18 years of age. All clients must have a current photo identification proving their identity and birth date, as per Florida law, in order to be tattooed.

You are required to bring your ID to the appointment in order to fill out your release form.

Please reach out to us if you have questions or concerns.

Good Moon takes residence inside of the historic Rosewood house in the Pleasant Street District of Gainesville, FL.

320 NW 1st St, Gainesville, FL, 32601

Please fill out and submit the Booking Request Form on the Booking page.

You may also reach out to your artist through their social media, if they allow, or text us at 352-559-9954 .

Yes, in order to set an appointment, you will need to leave a deposit.

Deposits are variable depending on what you were quoted for your tattoo.

The deposit will be collected once there is an agreed upon appointment time.

Deposits cover a small portion of the total of your tattoo. The deposit confirms your appointment. If you have not submitted a deposit, you do not have a tattoo appointment scheduled (unless it is a touch-up appointment, in which case you and your artist should already be in contact). At the end of your tattoo appointment, you will owe the remaining total of the quoted price of your tattoo.

  • Deposits are non-refundable.
  • Deposits can be used for 1 reschedule. Please reach out to your artist atleast 6 hours before your appointment in order to reschedule with your deposit in tact.
  • If you must reschedule a second time, a new deposit will be required.
  • If you do not give notice* to your artist before your appointment (*preferably atleast 6 hours beforehand) that you will not be able to attend, your deposit will be forfeit to the artist to compensate their time. A new deposit will be required to reschedule.
  • If your artist needs to reschedule you for their own personal reasons, your deposit will remain in tact.

Deposits can be paid in person with cash or card, or we can send you a Square invoice.

We use the Square system, which means we can accept credit and debit, including contactless payments (Apple Pay, Tap to Pay, etc). Square also accepts Cashapp Pay.

The Square takes a processing fee of 2.6% + $0.10, as well as state tax: please take that into consideration.

We also accept cash, of course~

Cash will be the flat amount quoted for your service.

We do not have an ATM at our location, so please plan accordingly.

We do not accept checks, personal or otherwise, trades, Venmo, Cashapp, or other alternative forms of payment.

Yes, we accept tips.

No, you do not have to tip, haha; tipping is completely voluntary.

The Square will offer an option to tip with pre-set percentages (or a custom option) if you are paying with card/digital.

If you're paying in cash, the standard 20% of the total is fabulous, or any number you feel is appropriate.

Cash tips are easier on the artists.

Any tips meant for your artist will go to your artist - they are not split amongst the studio.

All gratitude is appreciated, monetarily or otherwise!

  • If you're still a week or so out, you can begin to moisturize the area you will be getting tattooed with your regular moisturizer once or twice a day.
  • At a few days before the appointment, make sure to stay well hydrated.

Both things mentioned so far help your skin prepare and assist with quick healing.

  • Plan an outfit that will cover you comfortably but will easily allow access to the area. Example: if you're receiving a tattoo on your upper thigh, wear soft, flexible shorts and a t-shirt, or a skirt or dress that will keep you otherwise covered while allowing access to the area being tattooed. We recommend bringing a light sweater or flannel, in case you get cold. Please do not wear white, pastel, or light colored clothing around the area getting tattooed - we would hate to accidently get some ink on your clothing!
  • It is not recommended that you drink heavily 24-48 hours before a tattoo, to ensure your comfort and the quality of the tattoo.
  • Refrain from long-term sun exposure of the area to be tattooed for a few days before your tattoo appointment, minimum. We cannot tattoo on sunburned skin.

  • Eat as much of a full meal as you're able as close to your appointment as possible. You should always eat before any sort of body modification. The process can make your blood sugar drop, which can possibly lead to a pass-out situation. If you end up losing consciousness, we cannot proceed with the tattoo. Please take care of yourself! We will do our best to keep you safe and comfy.
  • Be sure to bring any prescribed medications that you would usually take if your appointment overlaps with the standard time you take your medication.
  • Wear an outfit that will keep you covered, warm, and allow easy access to the area being tattooed. We do not recommend light colored clothing around the area being tattooed, just in case of any ink transfer.
  • Bring your photo identification (driver's license, etc) - you will need it in order to fill out the release form. We cannot tattoo you without a completed release form with your picture ID attached to it.
  • Confirm that you have your emergency contact's info for your release form.
  • You're welcome to bring a beverage in a closable container, and a packaged snack (especially for longer sessions). If you are someone with low iron or blood sugar issues, bring what you would usually bring to help yourself stay level and comfortable. We can provide filtered water if you would like to refill your water bottle. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about what is appropriate.
  • Please do not drink alcohol or partake in illegal substances before your tattoo appointment. You cannot give informed consent if you are altered, please do not endanger yourself, and us, in this way. If you are drunk or otherwise out of control, we will ask you to reschedule your appointment.

You may bring one guest with you. Due to the size of our studio and parking area, we cannot hold many visitors at once. For the comfort of the other clients and artists, please bring only one emotional support person.

The artist/s and studio reserve the right to ask any visitors to leave if they are hindering the tattoo process, or are otherwise making themselves a nuisance. Please be respectful to the artist/s and other clients in the studio.

For the most part, yes, to the best of their ability. Please look through their portfolios to assure their work and interests align with your needs.

Good Moon is a safe place for anyone getting tattooed. In this vein, we will not tattoo racist or hateful subject matter. We support LGBTQIA+, respect whichever religion you choose, and will not impose our views upon you. We will not be party to hate speech or otherwise bigoted themes.

The artist/s reserve the right to deny any tattoo request that does not fit their personal skill set, requirements, and/or beliefs.

Please allow two days to a week for us to respond before resending you request.

We are a studio owned and run by artists, meaning we are responsible for correspondence as well as tattooing. Tattooing is very time consuming and business responsibilities can take a back-seat to the day-to-day. We are not ignoring you!

Thank you for your patience.

Most of our artists draw the design close to, or at the time of, the appointment. We do not offer pre-drawing as a standard service. If you speak with your artist, they may be able to work it out with you for a drawing fee.

We understand that this may feel stressful because you are excited and nervous for your new piece, but this practice allows the artists to give care to their projects as well as themselves.

Thank you for understanding.

As previously stated, the artists reserve the right to deny any requests they do not want to take part in.

Unless your subject matter was ineligible or you, yourself, have proven unable to cooperate with our process, the artist may not have been comfortable with your project.

In this case, we will ask the other artists in the studio if they would like to take on the project.

If one of our artists is unable to help you, we will often give recommendations of other studios in the area that may be able to help you with your vision.

If you were outright denied without any recommendation, our artists could not accommodate your needs. Please search out help with your project elsewhere. Thank you for your consideration.

If you come to your appointment and do not love the design the artist presents, please let them know! We bake in some extra time into appointments for set-up, filling out the release form, and any design changes.

If you still do not like the design, you are welcome to either reschedule your appointment and find new reference material, or scrap the project.

People change their minds- we want you to love your tattoo; please do not feel obligated to get a tattoo you do not want.

Any deposit left for the appointment will either apply to the new appointment or go to the artist in order to compensate their time.

If the tattoo has already been completed, reach out to your artist to speak with them about your concerns. Artists want to help you love your new ink, so please do not be afraid to speak with them about your needs.

We offer free touch-ups* for 3 years after the tattoo is completed.

*if the tattoo is on your hand, face, neck, or foot, the first 2 touch-ups will be free. If you continue to need touching up after that, a small set-up fee will be asked of you for your artist per the project's needs.

Since the tattoo has been completed, we cannot offer a refund.

We can help you try to make it match your vision, but if that includes expanding the tattoo, or covering any part with a new design, there will be a new fee to cover the new work per the artist's requirements.
